This penthouse crowns an adaptive reuse project of a 1930s parking structure, preserving its classic Art Deco façade while introducing a contemporary, art-filled interior. The project brief was to create a modern home that expresses elegance and style, like a boutique hotel in Paris.
The floor plan emphasizes processional flow between rooms. A four-sided fireplace promotes a sense of openness while allowing the client to host intimate dinner parties. The mechanical core, clad in blackened steel and ribbed wood, becomes an architectural focal point, concealing a pantry with a pass-through portal that doubles as a bar for entertaining.
A restrained palette of textured materials complements the owner’s art collection. The lighting is experiential, from pinpoint art lights to ambient lights that set myriad moods. In the primary bedroom, a dSPACE-designed lightbox artfully illuminates a bespoke headboard.
